Adjusting Rancho shocks

I put adjustable Ranchos on a couple of months ago and now is the first time I'll need to adjust them. The problem is, I forgot how. I don't know if the desired number should point toward the end of the shock or toward the middle. If there's a hash mark or something, I can't see it. Any help appreciated.

Good camp for touch-and-go near Memphis?

The first part of June I'll be taking my elderly parents from San Antonio to Fort Wayne, IN and back in my fifth wheel. It's a good solid two-day drive and Memphis is just about half way. I'm looking for a quick in and out campsite near Memphis--probably won't even unhitch. I'll be switching between Interstate 40 and Interstate 55 in Memphis. I'm even open to overnighting at a rest stop. Any suggestions?
TIA

RE: 285 VS 265 tires

Anybody know if this upfit will work without rubbing on a 2003 F-350 with stock suspension? This is the tire size change I'm about to do. FWIW, with 265's my speedometer reads about 2.5 mph faster than I'm actually going, so the 285's should be about spot on.

A modest proposal

All this talk about hybrid vehicles, dual-fuel engines, ethanol, etc., got me thinking about a simple low-tech partial solution to our energy needs: why not get Congress to set up significant incentives for people to switch to diesel? Gallon-for-gallon diesel gets about 30-35% better fuel mileage than gasoline.
There's the added advantage of not taking food out of people's mouths around the world and keeping prices in our own grocery stores lower to boot. These days diesel engines are clean-burning and quiet, so there can be little objection on that score. We Americans are being cheated; the rest of the world has access to great little diesel cars and trucks that we've never even heard of over here.
Tax rebates for purchase of diesel cars and trucks, and tax abatement on diesel fuel could, over a few years, save a huge chunk of the country's energy consumption. You wouldn't need to force people to switch--you just make them an offer they can't refuse.

RE: 20.7 MPG on my Dodge dually

...This winter I hit a snow /ice storm that forced me to slow down to around 50 mph for a 100 mile stretch, and despite being in 4WD the whole time I averaged 22.7 mpg.
Far Roamer hit it on the head. For every 5 mph you reduce your speed, down to about 50 mph, you can improve you fuel mileage by about 10%.

RE: REFINISHING CAMPER DECK NEW PHOTOS

How are you all fastening the side supports (chains, cables, etc.) to the camper? Do you remove one of the bolts from the jack bracket on each side and replace it with an eye bolt? I want to carry a generator on one end of a hitch haul and need something extra to support it.

RE: Chaco Canyon, NM Trip Report

This unique heritage is being threatened by interests that want to pave the road from US 550 to Chaco. If and when that happens, Chaco will turn into another Mesa Verde, and visitors will be limited to Ranger guided tours and a much more structured experience.
Amen to that. Just as Chaco appears to have been a crossroads of ancient civilizations, my path almost always takes me through there when I'm in the Four Corners area. Chaco is an experience that can't be described--only experienced. I consider it to be one of the most spiritually infused places on the continent. If they pave the roads in, the ambience will be destroyed forever. Go there now, before it's destroyed.

RE: Texas-Big Bend Area

Well, the heat in Big Bend is nothing like the heat in Houston. :)
That said, it can get pretty warm on the desert floor or down near the river. But in the Chisos mountains, for example,it's usually quite comfortable, especially at night.
In my opinion, the absolute best time to visit is in September or October, the "rainy" season.

I got mine at Duraflap. Great quality, easy to install, and a good honest company to do business with.

RE: Lance 835 on a F150

An 835 needs an 8-foot truck bed. I didn't know they made an extended cab F-150 with a long bed.

How to load on a sideways slant?

I've never tried to load/unload on anything but a level surface. I need to move my camper to another place on the lot as the wife is getting tired of looking at it in front of the house (I think it's beautiful.) The only other place I can find has a sideways differential of about 4". I'm wondering what problems I'll have if I try to load/unload in that situation. Is it even possible?

RE: What will you add/replace/eliminate in your TC next?

I'm a little late to this thread, but I'll pitch in anyway. I bought my camper used, so I didn't have much choice, but if I could I'd eliminate the microwave and have a propane oven instead. Much more practical when boondocking without a generator.

RE: Tire Air Pressure

I recently discovered the marvels of correct tire pressure. I had always run my rears at max Ford recommended psi, but my tires were wearing bald in the middle with still plenty of tread on the edges. Now I weigh the rig, check the load/inflation table, and ride much smoother. Some E-rated tires have different max load ratings, but they all, by definition, use the same pressures under similar loads. For the pure skinny, see the Goodyear Load Inflation Table. Works for all brands.

RE: Man tours country in bread truck

Talk about nostalgia! Reminds me of my first "RV," a 1960 retired VW panel van that had been used as a janitorial supply truck and smelled like it. With a tailwind that baby would top out at 45 mph. But the feeling of freedom was fantastic and the mileage was great!

RE: Truck Camper Cost VS Other RVs

I have both an Arctic Fox fifth wheel that I bought new for around $30,000 and a used Lance I bought for about $10,000. In my opinion, the Lance was the better deal. First, buying it used from an individual, I didn't have to pay any sales tax. Knowing what I do now, I'd never buy another RV new. Also, as some have mentioned, there are ongoing expenses the 5ver has that don't apply to the Lance, to wit:
1. No need to buy insurance on the Lance annually.
2. No vehicle registration fee.
3. No recurring expense for tires.
4. Easier to find free camping spots in the Lance.
5. Significantly better fuel mileage with Lance.
Seems like there are a few other things I can't think of right now. All in all, I love my Fox on those increasingly rare occasions when I want to travel in stately splendor. But if I had to turn loose of one of my RV's, it would be the 5ver. Sometimes less is more.

RE: Road tire or AT tire?

I'm in the process of deciding the same thing. But my issue is the extra noise from an AT, not the mileage. Given the cost of the whole experience, an extra 1.5 mpg is at best a marginal concern. I'm finally wearing out a set of Toyo M-55's; the noise has been making me crazy for the last 65,000 miles. They're real screamers, if you know what I mean.

... And note that the Minimum Tire pressure is stated on the tires, not the maximum tire pressure. Max tire pressure is 10 PSI higher than minimum tire pressure.
